1st Early potatoes traditionally planted on St. Patrick's Day

  • Prune Hybrid Tea & Floribunda roses back hard. Shrub Roses should be trimmed. Scatter fertiliser at base
  • Plant Shallots and Onion Sets
  • Sow early seed potatoes
  • Divide and lift overgrown clumps of perennials
  • Protect new shoots from slugs especially herbaceous plants and clematis
  • Prune late-summer flowering hardy shrubs like Buddleia and Lavateria and late-summer and autumn flowering Clematis
  • Open the greenhouse doors and vents on warm days
  • Weeds will be starting to grow - weeding little and often will keep weeds from getting out of hand
  • Start programe of lawn care - lightly rake to remove debris. Apply moss killer
  • Apply a top dressing of fertiliser to newly planted trees and shrubs
